“…we always approach the world through largely unconscious habits of thought. ...’frames’ are the mental structures that allow human beings to understand reality - and sometimes to create what we take to be reality. We can’t learn anything very useful without acknowledging their pivotal role, without bringing frames, including these deep ‘worldviews’, into the open.”
Referencing the ideas of George Lakoff in Sense and Sustainability (2008) by Ken Webster and Craig Johnson. ------------- Do you have a quote or other thought that you would like to share with MELA members? If so email it to us and we'll post it for others to pause over.

“The concept of sustainable education appears to be calling for deep change at a time when educators and learners are already overwhelmed with too much change. But sustainable education is of a different order: affirming rather than dislocating, hopeful rather than soulless, where the smallest gain can be of deep significance."

Welcome to our support and inspiration pages.
These pages are used to share ideas, thoughts, thinkpieces, case studies and stumuli that might support or inspire us. This could sometimes be something that is also a teaching or CPD resource in which case we will also add it to those pages, but we all know that learning takes place in many places and in many different ways.
As such these pages might inclucde a film someone has seen, a book you have read, a news article or radio/TV broadcast that has inspired or angered, a photograph in a paper or magazine. Anything goes!
It is a space where members can share these ideas with each other and where we hope everyone might find something just that little bit different to get them thinking.
We are also planning to introduce MELA readers to share books and encourage dialogue across the membership, so if that is something that interests you then check back for updates or contact us to register your name and any books you think we should feature.
A MELA film society is another possible introduction with organised screenings in different parts of the region followed by a social and discussion. If this is something you'd be interested in then let us know.
Most importantly, this is a space we hope you will add to so send us contributions or let us know what else we could do on these pages ...
